Font Lake, Beaver Island, on the north point of the island, 1.5 miles from town.

Fox Lake, Beaver Island, at the center of the island, 10 miles from St. James.

Jordan River, East Jordan, access locations at Old State Road, Webster’s Bridge and Roger’s Bridge. Canoeing is also popular on this river.

Lake Charlevoix, accesses in Charlevoix, East Jordan and Boyne City.

Lake Geneserath, Beaver Island, the largest inland lake on the island, located at the island’s south end.

Lake Michigan, various access sites in most cities and townships along the coast.

Thumb Lake, Boyne Falls, can be accessed off Thumb Lake Road.

Walloon Lake, Walloon, can be accessed off Sumner Road and in Horton Bay.

Chandler Township Trails — 547-7234, cross-country skiing, hiking and snowmobile trails on state land off County Line Road in Boyne Falls.

Gull Island Nature Preserve, Beaver Island — (231) 448-2505, trails and viewing opportunities of Lake Michigan within walking distance of the harbor district in downtown St. James.

Little Sand Bay, Beaver Island — 448-2505, located a couple miles south of St. James, it is a biking destination.

Charles A. Ransom Preserve, Charlevoix — 547-2101, 80 acres located off Maple Grove Road. Panoramic views of Lake Michigan and a trail system.

Sleepy Hollow Preserve, Charlevoix — 547-7234, located off M-66 in Charlevoix.

Jordan River Pathway, East Jordan — (231) 536-7351, an 18-mile hiking trail that starts at Dead Man’s Hill on Dead Man’s Road off U.S. 131. The trail winds along the Jordan River. There are campgrounds along the route.

Little Traverse Wheelway, Charlevoix — (231) 348-8280, the paved and boardwalk non-motorized trail connects Charlevoix to Petoskey. Starts at Waller Road in Charlevoix Township.

Young State Park, Boyne City — (231) 582-7523, extensive cross country skiing, hiking and biking trails off Boyne City-Charlevoix Road.

Avalanche Mountain, Boyne City — (231) 582-0339, cross-country skiing trails, ice skating and sledding. Located off Lake Street.

Boyne Mountain, Boyne Falls — (800) 462-6963, over 50 downhill runs, 35 miles of cross country skiing trails, five miles of which are lit for night skiing.

Mount McSauba, Charlevoix — 547-3253, affordable cross-country (lit for night skiing) downhill skiing and skating. Located off Mount McSauba Road.

Fisherman’s Island State Park, Charlevoix — 547-6641, non-groomed cross-country ski and walking trails located off Bell’s Bay Road.

Spring Brook Pathway, Chandler Township, Boyne Falls (231) 437-7234. Cross Country ski trails, off Cobb and Bear River roads.

St. Clair 6 Mile Lake Natural Area, on the Antrim/Charlevoix County line — (231) 237-9335. Two miles of uninhabited natural land expanse, cross-country skiing trails.

Charlevoix/Antrim County Snowmobile Trail - county-wide, (231) 536-7351. This massive snowmobile trail system traverses the county and connects East Jordan and Charlevoix to areas in Antrim County, Gaylord, Indian River and Wolverine.

St. James Township Campground, Beaver Island — (231) 448-2505, one mile north of town on north shore, 12 primitive sites overlooking Lake Michigan and surrounding islands. Water, toilets, fire pits, picnic tables and phones. No reservations accepted.

Lake Michigan Beach, Charlevoix — 547-3253. South of the pier off Park Avenue, lifeguard on duty, restrooms, sand beach, playground, picnic pavilion, concessions.

Mount McSauba Beach, Charlevoix — 547-3253. Off Mount McSauba Road, offers sand dune trails and pristine beach on Lake Michigan.

Old City Park, Boyne City — (231) 582-0339. Off Park Street on the river, two blocks from Lake Charlevoix, offers a gazebo, a picnic area and play area.

Peninsula Beach, Boyne City — (231) 582-0339. Shoulders Lake Charlevoix and offers a children’s play area, barbecue, sand beach, volleyball and restrooms.

Public swimming beach on the harbor, Beaver Island — (231) 448-2505. In downtown St. James it offers a playground and sand beach swimming area.

Shanahan Field, Charlevoix Township — (231) 547-4611. A 10 acre park located off Waller and Old Orchard roads, includes tennis courts, a baseball diamond, soccer field and BMX track.

Sportsman’s Park, East Jordan — (231) 536-2561. On M-32, west of the bridge, 120 acres with river frontage, restrooms, picnic sites and canoeing.
