Yachtsee: luxury triple play with the latest
Biggest: 72-foot Hatteras
A few hundred yards from where Ziggy is docked at the Bay Harbor Yacht Club sits the home of Harold and Bonnie Zeigler, her owner. The home itself is a stunner, a cliffhanger along the dramatic landscape of Bay Harbor’s coastline.
Ziggy would make a fine home herself.
The 2009, 72-foot Hatteras, brokered through Walstrom Marine in Harbor Springs and Bay Harbor, has five staterooms with their own full baths, washer and dryer, full kitchen with a typical home-sized stainless steel refrigerator and kitchen island, a half dozen or more flat panel televisions and a salon that rivals any living room, land or sea.
This boat’s so smooth there are even crystal wine glasses in the cabinets.
All that and her own captain: Floridian J.R. Francis, who has skippered other boats in the region before connecting with the Zeigler family. J.R. gave a rundown of his charge’s stats, including: 1,800 hp Caterpillar engines (two of them); weight, 170,000 pounds (about 90 tons); reverse osmosis system for pure drinking water; height of 22 feet above water level; five baths plus a day head; 115 gallons of fuel burned per hour; and two captain’s stations, inside on the main level and up on the flybridge. Captain’s quarters, entertainment spaces above and below deck and the latest technology in navigation combine to give a new definition to the term “houseboat” indeed. HL
