The Gaslight District of Petoskey is known for having more than 100 original, independent shops, restaurants and cafes.
“Petoskey is fortunate to still have a vibrant downtown that remains the community’s center. People gather here for events, or to go out to eat, or to simply take a stroll. It’s a great place to just soak in the ambiance.” said Carlin Smith, president of the Petoskey Regional Chamber of Commerce.
As you stroll through the historic blocks, with a view of Little Traverse Bay, you’ll find home furnishings, clothing and antiques, plus pubs, coffee shops and fudge stores.
Travel just two miles south of Petoskey and discover a lavish style of shopping at The Village in Bay Harbor. The district features upscale stores, boutiques, galleries and restaurants. Visitors can shop for gourmet foods, nautical collectibles, art, books, clothing, footwear and more.
On the other side of the bay is Harbor Springs, where visitors can find a more nautical spirit, with spectacular merchandise, art and restaurants. The downtown is also home to antique and gift shops, furniture stores, boutiques, restaurants and ice cream shops.
Alanson’s downtown has taken off in recent years as well, offering shoppers a variety of finds, from restaurants like Bob’s Place, antiques, a bakery and Fairbairn’s hardware store.
And in Mackinaw City, at the top of Lower Peninsula, is found one of the state’s top tourist spots, with fudge outlets, retail and historical sites set aside the stunning Mackinac Bridge.
For a relaxed shopping experience on Round Lake, take a stroll along Charlevoix’s shopping district. Shoppers can find just about anything they’re seeking, including galleries, book stores and clothing outlets. Restaurants like Whitneys and Villager Pub are long-established eateries within a short walking distance to fulfill any appetite. Improvements to East Park are nearing completion and will offer a refreshed look to this charming downtown landscape.
In Boyne City, visitors enjoy views of Lake Charlevoix while shopping for fine clothing, jewelry, art and dining at hot spots like Red Mesa Grill.
Downtown East Jordan lies between the peaceful wetlands of the Jordan River estuary and the south arm of Lake Charlevoix. The community has many shops and points of cultural interest, including the Jordan Valley Arts Center and recreational rentals at Jordan Valley Outfitters.
