An extensive trail network winds through the Northern Michigan landscape, with paved paths for smooth pedaling and rough terrain for more experienced riders.

Note: Many bike/hike paths utilize segments of road to join links. Some riding/walking will take place along road shoulders.
Little Traverse Wheelway/Petoskey bike path
Existing path is paved about 30 miles, starting in Charlevoix then east to Petoskey, through Bay View to M-119 and on to the Pleasantview Road intersection. From there, the shoulders are wide enough to ride into Harbor Springs. Mix of hills and level terrain. Novice.
Work is in process to connect the trail all the way to Harbor Springs so riding on the shoulder won’t be necessary.
Thirty miles of mostly dirt and cinder trail passes through Conway, Oden, Ponshewaing, Alanson, Brutus, Pellston, Levering and Carp Lake to the DNR trailhead in Mackinaw City. There are two segments: Spring Lake Park, on M-119, to Alanson includes 11 miles of trail that skirts Round Lake and other wetlands; the Alanson to Mackinaw segment is 27 miles along U.S. 31. Intermediate.
Charlevoix Township Bike Path
Predominately widened paved road shoulder. From Division Road along Mount McSauba Road to Mount McSauba, then along Waller Road to the Charlevoix Community Pool on U.S. 31. Novice.
North Country Trail/Mackinaw State Forest
In Antrim, Charlevoix and Emmet counties. For hikers and mountain bikers. Path segment is more than 52 miles of flat to hilly terrain, mix of natural, gravel and paved surfaces. Novice-intermediate.
Directions: South Trail Head: Warner Creek Pathway on M-32; Thumb Lake Road about five miles east of Boyne Falls.
North Trail Head: Bear River Trail, from River Road in Petoskey; at North Central Michigan College natural area, from south end of Howard Street.
North Country Trail/Mackinaw State Forest
In Emmet County, 33.2 miles of difficult, advanced to expert, hilly mountain bike/hiking trails on natural surface.

Wilderness State Park
In northern Emmet County, 35 miles of looping trails on natural and gravel surfaces, novice to intermediate mountain biking. Bike riding is limited in this state park.

Springbrook Pathway
In Charlevoix County, five miles of easy mountain bike/hiking on natural surface.
Trail Head: Chandler Road
Wildwood Hills Pathway
In Emmet and Cheboygan counties; more than nine miles of novice to intermediate mountain biking/hiking on natural surfaces. System has three loops of 4.5 to 7 miles.
Trail Head: Wildwood Road, which forks to the north (left) for about three miles to parking lot.
